Essential Safety Features of the Best Private Airports in the USA

Safety is an understandable concern for travelers. It is, therefore, important for passengers and charter companies to partner with private airports who are committed to providing measures that are essential to the safety of guests, operators, and ground crew. At Monmouth Executive Airport, safety is a top priority. Here are just some of the measures we have in place to ensure safety and security as well as an efficient and satisfactory experience:

  • Runways are designed to accommodate different types of aircraft and this is strictly adhered to. At Monmouth Executive Airport, we are fortunate to have two long runways that offer safe landing and take-off for almost any type of private jet or aircraft -even during challenging weather. Our main runway is the longest of any private airport in the country at 7,300 feet.
  • Runway maintenance schedules are strictly adhered to, ensuring that the ideal surface is provided for safety and comfort during take-off, landing, and taxi procedures.
  • Runways are cleaned regularly to remove debris. This prevents anything from being sucked into the engine of an aircraft or causing damage to the tires or any other parts of the aircraft.
  • 24-hour de-icing services to ensure safety during take-off. Ice that gathers on aircraft wings and rear tail components changes the shape of these parts which affects the airflow around the aircraft during take-off, hindering its ability to create lift.
  • 24-hour fuel availability to ensure quick turnaround times.
  • 24-hour LED-based airport lighting and rotating beacon.
  • Access to Ground Power Units (GPUs) 24-hours a day.
  • Onsite security to ensure comprehensive access control.

The Economic Impact of the Private Flight Industry in the USA

While commercial aviation still takes the lion’s share when it comes to the numbers, accounting for an all-time high of 849.3 million passengers in 2017 alone, private flights are making an increasingly important contribution to the economy. Here are some interesting insights from Monmouth Executive Airport.

Interesting Facts About the Aviation and Private Jet Industry in the USA

  • The USA alone accounts for a massive 49% of the entire private jet market with Europe following at just 20.8%.
  • Each year, private jet charter services contribute around $150 billion to the US economy.
  • The USA isn’t just the leader in private jet use, the aviation industry here is also the main center for operating, servicing, and maintaining the majority of the world’s private aircraft too.
  • The aviation industry in the USA employs over 1.2 million people across the country, from pilots and air crew to maintenance technicians, aircraft designers and engineers, and many more. The ripple effect expands when you consider the millions of jobs the industry supports indirectly – tourism, private airports, air traffic controllers, hotels, and private transport companies.
  • Many types of aircraft are also designed and built in the USA, often for sale on the European and Asian markets. These sales are projected to contribute an additional $8 billion to the economy in 2018.
  • Average jet charter rates vary widely according to aircraft type, with a Citation Mustang clocking in at around $1.674 per hour and a Gulfstream 550 at $8.640 per hour.
  • The USA also plays host to the biggest private jet travel event in the world – the Super Bowl. In 2017, over 600 private aircraft flew in for the event! The Masters Golf Tournament, Art Basel Miami Beach and the Kentucky Derby are also big events for private aircraft travel.
  • Travelers can reach ten times more airports when flying by private aircraft than by commercial airliner, as there are over 4.000 airports where you can land and take off.

Why High Quality Is Essential To Private Airports

Ever flown by private aircraft? It’s a truly luxurious experience where you can take your pets with you, hold work meetings while you fly or simply relax and be pampered as you travel. At private airports like Monmouth Executive Airport, our focus is on providing the same type of world-class experience and similarly, the quality of our services sets us apart. Here are just some ways that quality makes all the difference:

  • Treating your clients in the way they deserve: For private charter services, having a partner who can extend the luxury of private flight beyond the trip on the aircraft itself is essential to meeting the needs and expectations of private travelers. This includes well-appointed waiting areas, door-to-door transport services and even helicopter shuttle services.
  • Seamless services: Charter companies need to operate seamlessly if they are to meet the level of service their clients require. Having on-site aircraft maintenance, custom aircraft hangars, a reliable supply of Jet A and Avgas (under a fueling canopy that keeps aircraft and passengers out of the elements) and other high-end FBO services is key to keeping the highest client service standards.
  • Professional operations: The operation of the airport itself should meet the highest professional and safety standards to ensure great client service and smooth operations for private charter services. This includes operations running 24/7, all-night runway and taxiway lighting, GPS approach, aircraft de-icing, on-site maintenance crews and runways long enough to accommodate large private jets as well as smaller aircraft.

As you can see, a private airport is more than simply a service provider – they are a partner in the success of your charter company.

Essential Tips For Managing The Brand of Your Private Charter Company

  • Update and refine your online presence: Having an online presence is not enough anymore – it needs to work hard for your brand and your customers. It’s performing all the same roles that a classic office would, after all – from delivering that essential first impression to assisting with enquiries and taking bookings. Your website should be custom designed, error-free and linked seamlessly with your presence on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Wherever your customers are, you should be – and you should be putting your best foot forward.
  • Make sure you’re mobile-friendly: In 2015, Google announced a pivotal tipping point for brands – that “more Google searches take place on mobile devices than on computers in 10 countries including the US and Japan.” SearchEnginePeople back this research up with their own, showing that 4 out of 5 mobile searches eventually lead to a purchase. This means that having a mobile-friendly website is just the foundation of a great brand’s offering – apps, chatbots and other features should be mobile too, to provide a customer experience as elite as the services you offer.
  • Know where your customers are: As every great business knows, your brand exists in the mind of your customers – so, where are they and what are their interests, concerns and priorities? Getting to know your target market also means spending time where they are and delivering value-adding interaction. Your business market may be on LinkedIn while your high-end leisure travelers are on Instagram – so you should be there too.
  • Partner with an airport who meets your client’s brand expectations: The premium client experience starts before your clients come aboard, so be sure to partner with a private airport that shares the same priorities and attention-to-detail that your charter service does. From exceptional facilities and FBO services to premium custom hangar solutions to keep your aircraft in perfect condition, this is one relationship you can’t compromise on.

Common Reasons Why Pilot's Don't Finish Flight School

Learning to fly is a dream for many people, but some students worry that they won’t have the ability to meet the learning requirements or develop the skills they need to control an aircraft. The reality is that this usually isn’t a reason for students not to finish flight school! Almost anyone can learn to fly – so why do some students not complete the course? Here are some insights from the flight school at Monmouth Executive Airport in New Jersey.

  • Financial obligations: The cost of flight training varies from school to school and is also determined by the type of license you want to attain. On average, a private pilot license can cost around $10,000 but there can be additional charges too, like learning materials and living expenses while you’re in training. For some students, the cost may become too much to manage or a life event may impact on their finances, making it difficult to pay for lessons. Usually, many of these students return to training months or even years later.
  • Lack of time: You do need to put aside time to complete the course and fly the required number of hours – a minimum of 40 hours for a private pilot license (often an average of 60-70 hours in reality). For some students, this can become difficult to achieve, leading to cancelled lessons, delays in their progression and eventually quitting when they realize they simply don’t have the time. When they do have the time later in life, many of these students return.
  • They lack focus: When you’re aiming to accomplish something, whether it’s a pilot’s license, a college course or anything else in life, you’ll always perform better if you have an end-goal in mind. Your focus could be to work towards your career goal as a commercial pilot, to join fire and rescue services or simply to fly around the country and enjoy the sights. Without a plan in mind, some students struggle to motivate themselves to complete flight school.
  • They had a bad instructor: Teachers play a critical role in helping students discover their passion for flying, develop their career goals, build their confidence in the air and pass on knowledge effectively. While industry standards are in place to ensure instructors are of a high quality, sometimes personality clashes or other issues can make it a bad learning experience that unfortunately leads to a student dropping out. In these cases, it’s essential to speak up and switch instructors or move to a school where you feel comfortable with and confident in the instructors.
